Talent manager and columnist Lolit Solis has always said that if Piolo Pascual and Sam Milby were to file a letter of desistance, she will also take back what she wrote in her October 15, 2007 article in Pilipino Star Ngayon about her "Sofitel eyewitness account."
Looking back, Lolit reported that she saw Piolo and Sam whispering to each other at the poolside of Sofitel Hotel on October 12, 2007. In reaction to Lolit's report, Piolo and Sam slapped her with a P12- million libel case.
After seven months, Lolit retracted her statements in the article, saying, "There's no factual basis on my article which came out. I am extremely sorry for dragging the names of Sam Milby and Piolo Pascual. I am sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused."
Last Wednesday, May 14, the exchange deal between the two parties was finally agreed. Together with Pilipino Star Ngayon entertainment editor Veronica Samio, Lolit signed the short statement of retraction at the special hearing of Branch 55 of the Manila Regional Trial Court, in front of presiding Judge Jose A. Medoza. Sam and Piolo subsequently filed an affidavit of desistance, dropping the libel case on the spot.
Piolo said he realized that it was good thing the case didn't end badly. Sam agreed by saying that he did not want to see Lolit in jail and that he was really happy and thankful that all ended well.
In a previous PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) report, it was said that Seiko films producer Robbie Tan was the key figure in easing the tension between the two camps. Robbie is reportedly close to Joji Alonso, Sam and Piolo's lawyer.
But after so many months, how come Lolit retracted her story only now?
Then, later on, after seven months, na-realize ko na baka nga mali. Yun, kaya ako, apologetic ako, nagso-sorry ako. Nagpapasalamat ako na naging understanding sila [Piolo and Sam]. Ipinakita talaga nila na Christians sila. Siguro, na-realize nila na kawawa naman yung 61 years old, umaakyat sa fourth floor ng walang elevator. Na-realize ko talaga na mababait silang tao."
Lolit also told Piolo and Sam, "Thank you talaga.
For all her age and experience, Lolit admitted that she still learned something valuable from this ordeal.
Later on StarTalk, Lolit celebrated her 61st birthday—her actual birthday is on May 21. The lady who orchestrated the 1994 Manila Filmfest scam has learned another lesson in life with this incident involving Piolo and Sam.
She said, "Thankful ako, kasi ilang beses na akong nakagawa ng kasalanan, e.
